GRAEME MURTY was pleased to see his Rangers kids disappointed after they let a two goal lead slip away against Feyenoord on Saturday.

The Light Blues kicked off their new Development Squad games programme with a trip to Holland to face their compatriots from the Eredivisie giants.

Goals from Andrew Dallas and Jamie Barjonas put the Gers in control of the clash but they couldn’t hold on to record an impressive victory.

Glasgow Times: Rangers U20 boss Graeme Murty

Rangers will face the likes of Manchester City, Liverpool and Benfica in the first half of the campaign as the Ibrox second string are tested against some of the brightest young talents at home and abroad.

And Under-20 boss Murty reckons there were plenty of positives for his players to take from their trip to Rotterdam.

“It was an even game and a good test for the players,” he told rangers.co.uk.

“Lots of young men got an opportunity to test themselves against a good level of opposition, but the most pleasing thing for me was us sitting in the changing room afterwards and being disappointed at not having won the game.

“It was a hard task to lift the players because they felt a little bit down that they had let a two-goal lead slip.

“That for me was really pleasing because it shows they are desperate to compete and they are desperate to win these kind of games.

“It was scrappy initially, we were a little bit frantic where they were more composed and we need to learn how to rest in possession a lot better than we do currently.

“But we showed that we are more than capable of being a threat, we showed that we can move the ball and retain the ball as well as them.

“We just have to get used to playing at that level for 90 minutes and I think that we had a bit of variance in our play.

“Our good stuff was really good and our less polished stuff needs a lot of work to get it up to the right standard.”
