With only two days left for clubs in Scotland to strengthen their squads, Celtic continue to be linked with new arrivals.

The latest suggestion is PSG youngster Odsonne Edouard, who the Hoops are believed to be weighing up a loan move for the striker ahead of the deadline.

The lack of options up front is a cause of concern for many Bhoys fans, with four competitions to compete in over the coming months, and the Frenchman could provide some much-needed cover. But who is he?

Promising start

Edouard was born in Kourou, French Guinea, and joined the Bobigny football academy before being snapped up by Paris Saint-Germain as a promising 13-year-old in 2011.

The scouts’ hunch proved to be right, as the striker went on to shine at youth level for both club and country. Edouard was named Player of the Tournament at the 2015 European Under-17 Championships after scoring eight goals, including a hat-trick in the final, to help France to the title and win the golden boot in the process.

His scoring prowess was similarly impressive at club level, where he scored 47 goals in two seasons before picking up the club’s ‘Titi d’Or’ award, voted for by fans for the best academy player.

Edouard went on to represent his country at Under-18 and 19 levels as well as helping PSG reach the UEFA Youth League final in 2016, scoring three times on their run before eventually succumbing to Chelsea.

Senior struggles

Edouard’s impressive form at youth level was rewarded with a senior team deal in April 2016 and his first big opportunity arrived when he was sent out on loan to Ligue 1 outfit Toulouse last season.

Things didn’t go as planned though, with the 19-year-old managing to score just once in 17 appearances, with 12 of those outings coming from the bench.

Any chance of a strong finish to the campaign was ended in unusual circumstances. Edouard was handed a four-month suspended jail sentence and fined €6000 for his involvement in an incident where a passer-by was shot with an air gun.

Toulouse cut short the striker’s loan as a result and he hasn’t made a senior appearance since.

But with Brendan Rodgers having excelled at developing young talent since arriving in Glasgow last summer, could he be the man to get the youngster to replicate his youth team form at the top level?
