I said in this column a couple of weeks ago that I would like to see Rangers bring another striker in before the end of the transfer window. That didn’t happen, though.

I think we are a bit short when it comes to a centre-forward but Pedro Caixinha clearly has faith in the players that he has got in that area of the side.

So he will go with Kenny Miller, Alfredo Morelos and Eduardo Herrera as his main options this season, and will hope that Ryan Hardie can make the step up as well.

I was looking for an out and out striker to come into the team, and I am sure a lot of Rangers fans were as well.

But we will go with what we have got now. Pedro said a couple of weeks ago that he was happy with his options.

We know what Kenny brings to the team, while Morelos and Herrera are still settling into life at Rangers. When it comes to young Hardie, he will put a shift in, but he is not a 20-goal a season man in the Premiership right now.

What I wanted was someone that plays in the box, not someone that comes deep or goes wide to pick up the ball. I would have liked to have seen a poacher, someone who is able to sniff out a chance and put the ball in the back of the net.

For me, it is a disappointment that that hasn’t materialised. But the manager sees the players in training and if he is comfortable not making a signing there, fine.

I don’t think Pedro will see it as a gamble going with the options that he has got. If he did, he would have gone out and brought another player in.

Everybody would like a player that scores 20 goals but if they are not available and the price isn’t right then you have to get on with it.

I can understand if the fans are a bit frustrated that another deal wasn’t done, but the manager stands or falls by the players he brings in or doesn’t bring in.

What he needs most of all is results and to get results you need to score goals. We will score goals, but whether it is enough to achieve what we want to achieve this season is another thing.

Come January, if things aren’t going that well then Rangers might look at the situation again and go back in the transfer market to strengthen the side.

If you look at Celtic last season, they had Moussa Dembele, Leigh Griffiths and Scott Sinclair scoring the majority of their goals. They had forwards you could rely on to score.

If you are going to be successful, you need a couple of players that are guaranteed to get you goals.

But they also had Stuart Armstrong, Callum McGregor and Tom Rogic that could score, and they had goals from the defenders as well.

Rangers will need the same this season and there is a bit of extra pressure on players to chip in if you don’t have that strength and depth up front.

So the players that have come in this summer will have to play their part and help out when it comes to putting the ball in the back of the net.

The likes of Lee Wallace and James Tavernier have scored goals for Rangers in the past, while Graham Dorrans, Josh Windass and Niko Kranjcar have done it for previous clubs.

So there is no reason why they can’t do it for Rangers and take some of the burden off Miller, Morelos and Herrera.

I have heard a lot of managers say over the last couple of weeks that players need time to settle. Rangers don’t get away with that.

The stakes are so high at Ibrox that you have to hit the ground running. If you don’t, people will form an impression of you within one or two games and decide whether you are a player or not.

That makes it difficult for players coming to the club, especially ones that have come to Scotland and aren’t used to the game here.

They are accustomed to playing a certain way but then they get here and the game is played at 100 miles per hour, you are tackled before the ball is at your feet and you have to realise that you will get kicked at some stage. That is the Scottish game and you have to adapt.

Rangers fans won’t accept any excuses and I think the players that have been signed this summer will have realised that pretty quickly.

When you come here, you need to get off to a quick start. You don’t get three, four, five months to bed into Rangers, because the season could be over by then.

For Morelos and Herrera, they will be judged on goals and hopefully they can repay the faith that the the manager has shown in them.

It has been a busy window for Rangers and Pedro has got his squad in place. Now everyone at Ibrox has to deliver this season.
