ELGIN City face a 16-hour round trip to Shropshire in the Irn-Bru Cup after being drawn against The New Saints.

The Welsh champions' home ground is in the English town of Oswestry close to the border with Wales and almost 450 miles away from the League One side's base in the north-east of Scotland.

They were pitted together in Tuesday's third round draw after TNS beat Livingston on penalties and Elgin defeated Irish side Bray Wanderers 2-0.

Welsh and Northern Irish sides were added last season in a revamp of the competition, with clubs from the Republic of Ireland also joining in for 2017/18.

Elsewhere in the draw, holders Dundee United will face Northern Irish champions Linfield for a place in the Irn-Bru Cup quarter-finals.

Linfield faced Celtic in the second round of Champions League qualifying earlier this summer, falling to a 6-0 defeat.

But they booked a place in the last 16 of the Irn-Bru Cup thanks to a 2-1 win away to Spartans on Sunday, while Dundee United beat Alloa Athletic 3-1.

Championship rivals Falkirk and Dunfermline will also face off, while Raith Rovers travel to St Mirren and Linfield's domestic rivals Crusaders face a trip to Highland League outfit Cove Rangers.

Ties are to be played on the weekend of October 7/8, subject to TV selections.
