PEDRO CAIXINHA insists he won't discuss opinions from players in public after criticism of his coaching methods by Michael O'Halloran.

The striker picked up the Premiership Player of the Month prize this week and claimed that the training sessions put on by Caixinha were 'different to say the least' and that he had to do extra work on his own because they 'weren't very demanding'.

But Caixinha has refused to hit back at the 26-year-old as looks to maintain his performance levels this term.

He said: "I respect the opinion from everyone. But I never discuss it in public, or even less discussing opinions from players on training and from players to coaches.

"I just wish him all the best. Ultimately, he is our player.

"The better he will do with St Johnstone the better he will have the return with us. So I really hope he does better."

Caixinha returned to Portugal during the international break to give a lecture on coaching at the University of Lisbon.

And the Light Blues boss is content to continue putting his methods across in the same manner as he looks to bring success back to Ibrox this season.

Caixinha said: “It is not a question of being happy or disappointed. It is a question of believing in it, of knowing that this is the right way.

“You have a lot of ways to work, a lot of methodologies. Each coach has their own. So I believe in my own, totally, 100 per cent. And it is improving day by day.

“So I am not going to discuss those things. If this was at the High Performance Coaching I could discuss it with you because we are more or less discussing the same matter and everyone understands what we are talking about.

“But from player to managers or from managers to reporters? Please, don’t. I am not going to do that.

“I believe in my methodology 100 per cent and I respect the opinion from Michael and I wish him all the best.”
