Motherwell manager Stephen Robinson says that no one will come to Fir Park and bully his side anymore, now that they have rediscovered their identity.

Fir Park was once renowned as one of the hardest grounds to visit in the top flight, but in recent seasons, the Steelmen have laid out the welcome mat for visiting sides both on and off the field.

But after giving Rangers an almighty run for their money in their first home game of the season and following that up with wins over Ross County and Hearts in Lanarkshire, he feels they have shown they are no soft touches anymore.

“We needed some sort of identity,” said Robinson. “People now know that we are a strong physical team that can play at the same time.

“It’s nice that people are talking and saying that is what we are.

“Before, I’m not sure if we had an identity. But we do now and it’s something we have to build on.

“I don’t think you can outplay teams every week.

“We try to out-battle teams and then get it down and play. We do it in that order.

“Hearts are renowned for being a big physical team and I thought we out-fought them.

“You can’t be a fancy team that pops the ball about for 90 minutes.

“I’ve said it numerous times that we are a nice team to come and play against.

“We are a nice football club and everybody is treated well when they come here.

“We are trying to make this into a hard place to come to and build a reputation for ourselves.

“We want to make sure teams don’t enjoy coming to play here.

“We have done that so far but it is only a start.”

Motherwell will be looking to wrap up their third win on the spin when Kilmarnock come to Fir Park this afternoon, and Robinson has been galvanized further by the way his squad is shaping up after the transfer window.

Another man who was relieved to see star man Louis Moult stay at the club in particular was his strike partner Ryan Bowman, who is hoping to get into the goalscoring groove after notching against Hearts last time out.

“My goal against Hearts was my first at Fir Park, it’s only taken me a year!” Bowman said.

“As a striker, you are brought in to score goals, and last season was a bit of a disappointment for me.

“I’ve already got more this season if you include the cup at the start of the season.

“The team kind of picked itself last year and I was maybe coming on on the left or the right, which is not my strength.

“This season I’ve been playing right up top with Moulty or Fish (Alex Fisher), and I’m sure that goals will come if I get a good run of games.

“We’ve managed to keep most of our big players, although obviously we lost Ben (Heneghan), who is going to be a big loss for us.

“He’s a great player and a top man, and we wish him all the best at Sheffield United.

“But Peter Hartley has come in and he’s looking really good in training, so hopefully he can fill Ben’s boots.

“We kept Moulty and that was a real worry for us, so now we can look forward.”
