A couple of weeks ago, people were talking about how we could be eight points behind Celtic and Aberdeen if the results went a certain way.

Now, Pedro Caixinha’s side face Partick Thistle with a chance to go top of the Premiership table for the first time in six years. What a boost that would be for everybody.

It wasn’t a great start to the season with the European exit and then the fans were groaning after the matches with Hibs and Hearts at Ibrox.

The manager was getting a bit of stick, the players were getting a bit of stick. But a couple of wins, and performances from the likes of Daniel Candeias and Alfredo Morelos, have cheered the supporters up and they will be looking forward to the Thistle game tonight.

To beat Alan Archibald’s side and go top of the league would be great. What a lift it would give the fans and the players.

We know Rangers aren’t going to play well in every game, but they need to be more consistent in terms of the results and put a run of wins together.

There is a chance to take top spot and it is one Rangers will want to make the most of, even if it might only be for a couple of hours until Celtic, Aberdeen and St Johnstone play.

The next game is always the biggest game for Rangers because they are being judged on every 90 minutes. If they win they are great, if they lose they are hopeless in the eyes of some people. So it would be a real lift if they could go top of the table.

Yes, it is early doors and nobody will be getting carried away here. There is still a lot of work for the manager and players to do this season.

But it has been a long time since the Rangers fans have seen their side in first place in the top flight. Hopefully the team can deliver that against Thistle.
