ANDERLECHT have appointed Hein Vanhaezebrouck as their new manager following last week's Champions League defeat to Celtic.

The Belgian side were beaten 3-0 at home by the Scottish champions, with interim boss Nicolas Frutos taking charge after the sacking of Rene Weiler.

Vanhaezebrouck has now signed a three-year deal with the club after three years with KAA Gent.

The 53-year-old impressed on the European stage with his last club, leading Gent to the knockout stages of the 2015/16 Champions League before reaching the last 16 of the Europa League a year later.

Last season's run included an impressive first knockout round victory over Tottenham Hotspur.

Celtic welcome Anderlecht to Parkhead on December 5 in their final group stage match.
