Craig Gordon has urged Scotland's last-gasp heroes to finish the job against Slovenia on Sunday.

Gordon Strachan's men put on yet another late show to grab a crucial 1-0 win over Slovakia on Thursday night.

That Hampden triumph was sealed by visiting skipper Martin Skrtel's last-minute own goal and sets up Sunday's do-or-die date with Slovenia.

Victory in Ljubljana will guarantee the Scots second place in Group F and should be enough to book them a World Cup play-off spot.

Scotland have netted seven goals at home during the current qualifying campaign, with five struck inside the final five minutes.

Now Gordon is confident his side's patient approach will see them through their most important test yet.

The Celtic goalkeeper, 34, told the Scottish Football Association's Twitter account: "We've scored a lot of late goals during this campaign and it shows we always go right to the end.

"We've got good fitness levels which ensure we can go right to the end to try and win the game.

"If we keep that spirit together we'll have another good chance going into Sunday's game.

"It will probably be the most important match I've played for Scotland since the Italy game back in 2007.

"It's another chance to progress from a group and this time I hope we can take it.

"At my age there's not going to be too many chances like this left. We've put ourselves in a great position now but we have to go finish the job."

Gordon collected his 50th cap against Slovakia and it proved to be a night to remember.

"It's a huge win for us and keeps our hopes alive going into the last game on Sunday," he said.

"It was a great 50th cap and I couldn't have asked for much more - a clean sheet and victory at the end.

"We felt the momentum was with us during the game. We were creating chances, they were getting tired having spent a lot of the game with just 10 men.

"You could see they were tiring towards the end and that's when we started to create more and more chances.

"Thankfully we managed to take one with a little bit of luck."
