JOZO SIMUNOVIC was unable to make his international debut for Bosnia because he fell ill before their game against Gibraltar.

And Celtic now face a sweat to see if he recovers for Friday night’s Premiership encounter at Hamilton Accies.

The 23-year-old stopper caused a sensation in Balkan football earlier this year when he announced he was switching nationalities from Croatia to Bosnia.

After being an unused sub in Friday night’s World Cup collapse in Cyprus, where Bosnia let slip a two-goal lead to lose 3-2, he was all set for his debut on Sunday in Portugal as they faced the minnows of Gibraltar in Faro.

But Bosnian boss Mehmed Bazdarevic revealed the Hoops ace was a late withdrawal from his line-up.

He explained: “Before the game Jozo told me that he did not feel well.

“So we didn’t want to take any risks with him and didn’t play him.

“Jozo will play in the Champions League for Celtic and in the future we can expect him to be one of our top players in our national team. 

“So there was no point taking any risks with him and we did the right thing.”
