PEDRO CAIXINHA was pleased to see Rangers’ Auchenhowie efforts pay off at McDiarmid Park as they clinched a 3-0 win over St Johnstone.

The Light Blues followed up their victory against Hamilton before the international break with a crucial three points in the Premiership.

Carlos Pena hit a double for the Gers before Graham Dorrans completed the scoring in the final minutes.

But the defensive performance of his side was just as pleasing as the attacking intent for boss Caixinha.

He told RangersTV: “I am delighted as it was solid, it was compact, it was collective, we won and we had a clean sheet. Everything went to the way of all the hard work we have put in over these last two weeks.

“We haven’t won anything – but it is a step forward definitely in the direction of having a cohesion about the team, about having a squad and a group of players who believe in the process and about getting along together.”
