TWO-goal hero Mikael Lustig last night hailed the Celtic depth charges that blew Hibernian out the water at Hampden on Saturday.

Lustig’s brace put Celtic on course for the League Cup Final before substitute Moussa Dembele added two more in the second half.

And Lustig reckons the contribution from the bench played a vital part in Celtic’s 4-2 win.

Tom Rogic, James Forrest and Dembele all came on in the second half and were involved in Celtic’s third and fourth goals, with the Frenchman netting both of them.

The Swedish internationalist was  delighted to get on the scoresheet but was equally pleased with the all-round team performance.

He said: “I think we showed strength when James, Tom and Moussa came on and we deserved to win.

“We came to Hampden to reach a final and we did it. We played quite good football. Obviously they got a penalty they shouldn’t have had and suddenly they got back into the game.

“It’s always hard to play in Europe and quickly come back to domestic competition. We’ve drawn against St Johnstone and against Hibs, so it’s hard to play away from home in Europe and come back, but I think we’ve proved to everyone that we’re a good team with quality throughout the squad.”

Manager Brendan Rodgers said he was delighted to reach another final on the back of the energy-sapping midweek defeat to Bayern Munich.

He said: “it’s a great tribute to the mentality of the players. We’ve come back off a tough game against Bayern Munich, a very sapping game mentally and physically, so this could be a real banana skin coming into a semi-final against a Hibs team buoyed by their strong start to the season and how well they’ve been playing.

“For us to come here, get the win and play at times the way we did and get the goals, I’m very happy.

“This is a competition that started our journey together as a team. This last year we’ve written history at the club and we want to keep rewriting it, and that comes with this relentless mentality to win and perform.”
