IT was short and not very sweet for Rangers. It certainly wasn’t dull, either.

Pedro Caixinha will go down in history at Ibrox for all the wrong reasons, but he will still be fondly remembered by those that watched his seven month spell in charge.

From European hopes to Europa League embarrassments, from dogs to vampires, the Portuguese certainly made for entertaining viewing. Here are some of his most headline grabbing moments.

On his ambitions for his Ibrox tenure

"We are talking about European trophies. It will take time, for sure, but at this level you need to set goals up high. If you set them low it’s not enough. They need to be realistic at the same time. It’s going to take time to arrive there but it’s important to know you are following those goals. At this time, I agree, it’s not realistic.

“But we need to set targets which are realistic and ambitious
at the same time. My ultimate goal is to even make this club bigger than it is.”

On the squad he inherited in March

“This is the squad we have for now and we really trust the players we have right now. For us, this is the best squad in Scotland. We just need to give them confidence.

“When I work with one team, the players who complete that squad are always the best ones. I do believe the players can have a better version than they are having at the moment.”

After losing 5-1 to Celtic at Ibrox

“You need to judge me all the time. From day one since I came here. I not a guy who puts the responsibility on others, I take it all the time. So judge me all the time. For things that are not going in the right direction
I am responsible and I always will be.”

On Aberdeen

"What I know is that football is about cycles. I know that Derek has been doing a great job, a fantastic job, but I know that moments and cycles work like that. I do believe that they’ve had a fantastic cycle in the last three or four years and they need to renew it. That’s what I understand looking at it from outside.”

After the defeat to Progres Niederkorn

“Normally, I don’t speak with the players straight after a match, but this was an extraordinary situation and I just told them that I have full confidence and trust in them. I will defend them all of the time. I will keep moving things forward, believe me.

“It is totally the worst result of my managerial career. One of things which was said before the game was unthinkable and it has really happened.”

After dropping five points to Hibernian and Hearts

“We have a saying in Portugal: ‘The dogs bark. And the caravan moves. The caravan goes on.’ So, that is what we are doing. We know what is going on in the surroundings – but we don’t care about that.”

On his touchline spat with Scott Brown

“So when Scott Brown was coming off I told him, ‘You do that.
But if I was on the pitch you’re not going to do it because I would
not allow you to put your elbow in my face’.

“If someone does nothing then I do have to defend my club and defend my players. I do it to defend the truth of the game.”

Previewing the Betfred Cup semi-final with Motherwell

“The vampires taste the flavour of the blood and they want more, they need it.

“It’s the same with the competitive teams and clubs, competitive players and competitive managers. They like the way the blood tastes.”

Reflecting on the loss at Hampden

“I told them you are embarrassing me, you are embarrassing our club and our fans.

“So if I can pick the same 11 those guys who really needed to do it yesterday will get the chance to do it on Wednesday.”

After the draw with Killie at Ibrox

“I say to them that they are the most loyal fans in the world. They don’t deserve to pass wthrough this situation. As I’ve told you all the time we work for them and I’m more disappointed for them. Because besides being the Rangers manager I’m also a Rangers fan. I’m blue inside.”

On talk of dressing room unrest after a team meeting

“Have you ever been to Las Vegas? What happens in Las Vegas stays in
Las Vegas, so that’s the first thing.

"I won’t tell you what I don’t want to [tell you], because that’s private.
Las Vegas is a great city but if you enjoy too much, what happens needs to stay there.”
