Interim Scotland head coach Malky Mackay has explained his decision to call up Rangers midfielder Ryan Jack for the game against The Netherlands, despite an indifferent start to his Ibrox career.

Jack has been sent off three times in 14 games for Rangers since moving to the club from Aberdeen in the summer, although one of those was rescinded on appeal, and the club have also appealed his latest dismissal against Kilmarnock.

Mackay has no concerns about the player’s current form, insisting his consistency over his career to date means that he deserves a chance to prove himself at international level.

Mackay said: “Ryan Jack is someone who was Aberdeen captain and was a consistent performer for them and who has gone into Rangers in different circumstances, playing a different style of football and playing with an array of different players.

“Through people I speak to at his own club and previous club and scouts, he is another talented player who we are giving a chance to.”
