Leigh Griffiths has set his sights on hitting the 100-goal mark for Celtic before the turn of the year.

The striker netted his 94th Celtic goal at Dingwall this weekend and admitted that he is desperate to hit his century before the winter break.

“I will keep chipping away,” said Griffiths. “The sooner that I get to the hundred mark the better.

“We have a lot of games coming up now so if I don’t get it by the end of this calendar year then I will be disappointed but even then I know that it is coming.”

Hitting the 100-mark will offer entry into an exclusive club for Griffiths.

John Hartson was the last Celtic player to reach that accolade and there have been only 28 previous players at the Parkhead to score 100 goals for the Parkhead side.

“It’ll be a real honour to be considered among some of the names that have reached that mark,” said the striker. “It is at the back of mind.

“You always know that you are cling in on it and it feels good with every goal that takes you that step closer to it.

“But my main aim at the minute is to get back in the starting XI. Moussa [Dembele] has been on fire at times since he has come back from injury and I am not complaining. I just want to keep doing what I have been.

“If I am coming on and making an impact whether it is off the bench or starting then I will hopefully be in among the goals.

“The main thing for me is that to score I need to play.

“I have had my fair share of niggling injuries and I missed a couple of games there but it was more of a precaution rather than anything else.”

Despite being just six goals off the one hundred club, Griffiths has insisted that he will not be hogging the ball over the next few weeks.

“Whenever I am playing my main thought is to help the team get the three points, even if that means helping someone else to score,” he said.

The striker hit 100 top flight goals at the weekend with his combined tally of Premier League goals for Hibs and Celtic.

The free-kick to seal the points in Dingwall was a fitting way to mark that particular accolade but he the striker has maintained that his sights are on the next one.

“It is always nice to hit milestones but the next one that I want to hit is 100 all in for Celtic,” he said. “It will have been a long time coming but I am already looking forward to it.

“Everybody knows that scoring 100 goals at any club is special and I can’t wait to do it. It was nice to know at the weekend that I had hit another wee landmark but this is the one that I have had in mind all season.

“It’ll definitely be special when it comes.”
