THE spirit and mentality of the Rangers dressing room has been queried on several occasions this season as performance levels have dipped and points have been dropped.

But Danny Wilson reckons the Light Blues are going some way to answering the questions that have been asked in recent months.

Victory over Hibernian in midweek was the fourth on the spin for Graeme Murty’s side as they retained second spot in the Premiership standings.

It was far from the best showing that the Gers have produced this term, but there was still satisfaction come the end of a hard-fought 90 minutes at Easter Road.

Wilson said: “I didn’t say too much. I can’t really say what I said but at half-time I said I felt we were very fortunate to be ahead.

“There’s no doubt we were and we were well below the standards required. The words at half time were to that effect.

“After the game everyone was obviously delighted with the result and to be able to show that resilience at a tough place like HIbs, where we haven’t enjoyed great results in our last few encounters.

“We were just delighted to win and continue the run we’re on and now we know we’ll have it tough against St Johnstone. They were beaten by Aberdeen the other night and will want to come to Ibrox and put on a performance.

“It’s not a role I actively seek. I didn’t go into the dressing room just to shout or prove a point.

“I was annoyed at the way we played and I wasn’t the only one. I voiced what I felt had to be voiced, but it was for 10 seconds and then everything calmed down.

“We sat and listened to what Murty had to say. We made a few changes tactically and they seemed to work for us so we were glad to get out of there with three points to continue the wee run we’re on and we move on.”

Talk of unrest in the ranks dominated the opening weeks of the campaign as Pedro Caixinha’s side toiled in the top flight.

But the return of Murty to the dugout has coincided with an upturn in fortunes on the park as the Gers continue to gel off it.

Wilson said: “There was no problem within the dressing room. I don't really know where that came from.

“You had players who spoke a different language who spoke to other players who spoke the same language. We didn't see a problem with it, there was no problem either way.

“We are pulling in the same direction. You win a few games and everybody thinks they are really united or something. There was no issue with us.

“We are on a good bit of form just now and we want that to continue. We are united and we have been united, it's just that it looks a bit better now because we have won a few games."

Rangers head into their clash with St Johnstone this afternoon five points adrift of Celtic after an impressive recent run on Murty’s watch.

And Wilson knows the Gers have to give the Ibrox crowd something to celebrate on a more regular basis if they are to remain at the sharp end of the standings.

He said: " We have dropped a lot of points at home - points we shouldn't really have been dropping.

“I think if we want to achieve anything this season we have to fix the home form because it's not been good enough.

“If we had taken more points at home, we would have been closer to first, but we just have to try and win the game and that will make it look better.

“But we are not looking too far ahead because like I say we know where we have just been. We are on a good run, so let it continue."
