DANNY WILSON reckons consistency will be key for Rangers if they are to transform their fortunes in the second half of the season.

The Light Blues will round off another rollercoaster year against Celtic on Saturday and head across the city on the back of a crucial 2-0 victory over Motherwell.

It was a much-needed win for Graeme Murty’s side following successive Premiership defeats to St Johnstone and Kilmarnock in recent days.

Wilson opened the scoring before Alfredo Morelos made sure of the points to keep the Gers within touching distance of second-placed Aberdeen.

And the defender knows the Gers must hit the heights more often in the coming months after digging deep in a tough encounter against the Well.

Wilson said: "I don't score many goals and I certainly don't score many as good as that so I am happy, but the important thing was to get back to winning ways and we have managed to do that.

“We were good without being spectacular, but we got the job done and that's the most important thing.

"We know we have been miles short for the last two performances. It was two poor results.

“But [Wednesday] was a bit better. We have a tough game on Saturday, but we can look forward to it now with a wee bit more confidence. We needed that win.

"If you look at the spells we have had - two wins, followed by two defeats and four wins followed by two defeats, so yes consistency has been a real problem for us.

“I can't quite put my finger on why it's been a problem for us, but we need to do better and put longer winning runs together.

“We need to make sure we don't lose games too. It's been a real problem for us all season going back to last season too.

“The boys are working hard, there's no doubt about that, but we have fallen short on occasions and there's no doubt we face a really tough game on Saturday."
