RANGERS flop Carlos Pena is on the brink of sealing a reunion with Pedro Caixinha, with Crux Azul set to land him on loan.

The 27-year-old midfielder revealed last week he had a ‘Plan B’ option to return to his homeland, although he was prepared to see out his three-year contract.

And Ibrox boss Graeme Murty admitted he wouldn’t be surprised if the 19-times capped player wanted to return to Central America.

Now Caixinha has made his move to try and link up again with the playmaker by trying to arrange a loan deal with his former club.
Rangers paid £2.2 million in the summer to land the Guadalajara player and was a marquee signing for Caixinha.

But he’s never been a first team regular for Rangers even though he’s managed a respectable five goals in just eight starts.

He came on as a late sub for Murty’s side in the weekend Old Firm goalless draw at Parkhead and that looks set to be his last Rangers appearance for this season anyway.

Last week, Pena said: “I have my contract and we will see what happens. But I would have no problem returning to Mexico with my family.

“As with any team, my mindset is to be as successful as I possibly can be and to do things right.

“But I am not ruling out a Plan B option to return to Mexico.”
