DANNY WILSON has set his sights on an extended run in the Rangers side to ensure he has a long-term future at Ibrox.

The defender is out of contract at the end of the campaign and is currently free to hold discussions with other clubs about a Bosman switch.

It is in Light Blue where Wilson wants to be playing his football next season though as he attempts to prove his worth under manager Graeme Murty.

The 26-year-old struggled for match time earlier in the term as he was overlooked by former boss Pedro Caixinha and failed to oust summer signings Bruno Alves and Fabio Cardoso.

But he has made the most of his chances to impress in recent weeks as he has made a dozen appearances and scored three times for Murty’s side.

Wilson said: “I really want to stay at Rangers. I'm in the last six months of my contract now so something will happen one way or another.

“But I hope it's to stay at Rangers because I'm never happier than when I'm here playing games.

“It's a discussion that will hopefully be had in the near future. In the meantime I just need to do the best I can for the rest of the season.

“Hopefully it'll take care of itself and I'll not have to worry about it.

“Personally, I'd like it done sooner rather than later. But we haven't spoken about it too much as yet so I'll never take anything for granted.

“But hopefully it'll get sorted. As far as I'm concerned, I see my future at Rangers.

“We've had a difficult period but hopefully we're out the other side better for it. Hopefully we can all move on together and I'll be here contributing.”

Wilson turned in one of his finest performances of the campaign last month as he helped Rangers to a point at Parkhead in the second Old Firm clash of the season.

The Gers were more than a match for Brendan Rodgers’ side on derby day but Wilson knows there could, and perhaps should, have been more reasons to be cheerful.

He said: “I don't want to get carried away with a draw against Celtic. We didn't win the game.

“We had chances to win it but the flip side is that they could have scored a couple in the first half. That might have put a different slant on the game.

“But in the second half it's the most comfortable we've been at Parkhead against Celtic in a long time. We were the ones knocking on the door to win it.

“It gives us a boost going into the second half of the season, going to places like that and dominating.

“On another day it would have been three points and it would have looked even better.”
