THIS week our team of sports writers will be providing their assessment of the season so far for all 12 Ladbrokes Premiership clubs.

Keep an eye on the Herald and Evening Times websites for our mid-season reviews throughout the week.

The season so far

In comparison to last season, Celtic have never quite hit the same fluency as they displayed throughout the Invincibles campaign. And yet, with a healthy lead at the top of the table, money banked from the UEFA Champions League group qualification and the League Cup in the trophy cabinet, it would be difficult to be churlish about the way the season has gone to date.

Best player

Would probably be a toss up between James Forrest and Scott Brown. Kieran Tierney, too, deserves to be in the mix but for me it would be Forrest for the manner in which he has added such a significant goal threat to his game.

The winger has netted on the big stage and has been relatively consistent throughout. Playing the best football of his career this season.

Star signing

Olivier Ntcham is probably the best signing that Celtic made over the summer. The French midfielder arrived having not played too much first-team football but has shown a deft touch and an eye for a creative pass that can make a telling difference. Glasgow Times:

Patrick Roberts started well but his injury issues have made it difficult for him to get up a head of steam, albeit that he is due back after the break.

Biggest disappointment

Really has to be to performances in the Champions League group stages. The hefty defeats suffered against PSG and Bayern Munich might not be too surprising given the vast chasm in resources between the clubs but they made for painful viewing from a Celtic perspective.

What will the second half of the season bring?

One has to expect more of the same. Hearts have taken away Celtic’s Invincible tag but few would expect Brendan Rodgers’ side to give much up in terms of their domestic dominancy.
