Mason Mount’s second-half strike proved enough as Vitesse Arnhem returned to winning ways to condemn struggling Sparta Rotterdam to a sixth-straight Eredivisie defeat at Sparta-Stadion on Tuesday night.
Mount had an attempt saved just four minutes in as the visitors searched for an opener but Sparta began to dominate soon after as Loris Brogno was denied three times following efforts from team-mates Fred Friday and Robert Muhren.
But it was Vitesse that took the lead after 64 minutes as on-loan Chelsea midfielder Mount fired Milot Rashica’s cross into the bottom corner for his fourth goal of the season to seal maximum points and leave their opponents bottom of the table on goal difference.
