GRAEME MURTY insists he is happy to work with a large squad at Rangers – as long as his fringe players don’t drain the energy out of the Light Blues.

The Ibrox boss has added five signings – Sean Goss, Jamie Murphy, Russell Martin, Jason Cummings and Greg Docherty – to his first team pool so far this month.

But Carlos Pena is the only regular that has left Glasgow after he was reunited with former boss Pedro Caixinha at Cruz Azul.

Defender Danny Wilson could follow him out of Ibrox as he considers a switch to Major League Soccer side Colorado Rapids but the future remains uncertain for a handful of players.

Murty is happy for everyone to remain as part of his plans this term but only if they are eager to contribute to the Gers.

He said: “If we have got too many players, that is a fantastic problem for us to have and we have healthy competition.

“I have said to the players that when I was with Steve Coppell he spent a lot of time managing the guys that weren’t playing.

“He said there was only 11 players you never need to talk to and that is your starting 11.

“You have to take your time to make sure that every person is respected as a human being and the ones that aren’t playing are more important in that regard than the ones who are playing. We will make sure we take of them and their individual needs.

“But I have challenged them all and they have to bring positive energy. If you are out of the team, don’t sulk, if you are out of the team don’t drain, if you are out of the team, get in the team by being brilliant on a daily basis.

“If you do that, you make yourself very difficult to ignore. That is the challenge that every footballer across the world has and that is the culture we want to have, were we accept that we aren’t in the team and accept it is up to us to do something about it to get in the team.”
