New Celtic signing Charly Musonda will wear the number 67 shirt – and has vowed to continue the Parkhead legend.

The 21-year-old playmaker sealed an 18-month loan deal to the club yesterday afternoon, with Celtic coming out on top as a host of other teams chased Musonda’s signature.

And, having done his homework, the player is keen to make an impression at the club.

Musonda is expected to go straight into the squad for tonight’s game against Hearts and is keen to showcase the reason why Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers pursued him for so long.

Speaking to Celtic TV, Musonda said: “I know that 67 is a special number here that is why I took that number. Now it is up to me to carry on the legend on the pitch and enjoy and hopefully I will give the fans what they are looking for me.

“They can expect to see a player who enjoys football, who is not afraid to show his quality and a bit of flair. I like to enjoy myself on the pitch and hopefully I can do well for the team – that is the most important thing.

“The fans I will try to give my best for. It is a big club. They can expect a player who is always happy and hopefully I can do well for the team.”

Musonda has insisted that the club’s reputation played a part in swaying him to Glasgow with the midfielder eager to sample the atmosphere at Celtic Park. A full stadium will also demand a certain level of performance, a challenge the player is eager to embrace.

Eligible for the Europa League game against Zenit St Petersburg next month, Musonda will be expected to be a key player for Celtic in the next 18-months.

“I feel really good,” he said. “It is a massive club and I am really looking forward to it.

“I was quite close last summer and it didn’t happen. I spoke to the manager again a couple of weeks ago and I thought, yeah, it is going to happen. I am really looking forward to playing my football here.

“I am really excited. I have read so many good things about the stadium and the fans and it is going to be unreal to play at Celtic Park.

“It is simple for me. Celtic is a massive club. It is a club with many fans and unbelievable passion. It is the culture as well – it is more than a club and for me that is the most important thing. I wanted to go somewhere where I would enjoy my football. I know the manager as well so I am happy to be here. It is a massive club with 60,000 people – you don’t get that everywhere.”
