Brendan Rodgers has insisted that Celtic’s game tomorrow night against Hearts is not about a revenge mission.

The Tynecastle side took the Parkhead side’s unbeaten record from them back in December with a 4-0 win over Rodgers’ side, but the Hoops boss is wary of directing his match plan around something that has been consigned to the past.

“I’ve always tried to spread the message that you have a point to prove in every single game,” said the Celtic manager.

“You can never think you have made it and are doing well. There is always room for improvement and you always have to prove yourself every single game.

“That’s the scrutiny which is on you at a club. You need to do it every game and find ways to get results. It’s a constant challenge.”

Mikael Lustig will miss the game with an achilles issue while Leigh Griffiths has been confirmed as out for the next four weeks with a calf issue. Craig Gordon is sidelined for the next three months but there is some brighter news with Celtic’s treatment table about to lighten significantly in the next few weeks.

“Mika has been struggling for four or five weeks with his Achilles,” said Rodgers.

“You could see it affecting his performances, so him and I spoke and it’s best to get it settled.

“Hopefully he’ll be back training within a couple of weeks as he’s been a real stalwart for me since I’ve been here, availability for games, the number of games he has played and his performances.

“I hope we’ll get that right and take it from there. We just have to see how he responds and comes back [for Zenit].

“Stuart [Armstrong] has taken a nice step forward, so he is upping his intensity and his work. He shouldn’t be too far from rejoining the main group fairly soon.

“Tom Rogic has been doing really well and it’s about catching up on his fitness.

“Marvin Compper should join the squad for training later in the week, so it’s about slowly getting a few of them back.”
