Thank God the SFA have finally managed to get a manager in place.

Why has it taken so long?

Who knows. That is a question that only the SFA can answer but certainly it could have been done way quicker than it was.

With no immediate games they were off the hook and have got away with the posturing in the lead up to the appointment of Alex McLeish.

I have to say that I don’t have an issue with Alex getting the job. Like all managers he has had his ups and downs but I suspect he has reached a point in his life where international management suits him.

Some supporters are irked at the fact that he left Scotland at the end of a campaign to go elsewhere but that is life and it is what happens in football. It shouldn’t rule him out of getting a second bite of the cherry.

In any case, there will be a few familiar faces in there for him and just as it was under Gordon Strachan, it will be the spine of the Celtic side that will transfer into the national side for the start of a new campaign.
