TOM Rogic is still in talks with Celtic regarding an extension to his current contract, despite reports suggesting that the midfielder has knocked back the first offer put to him by the Parkhead side.

The Australian midfielder made his comeback from injury last week against St Johnstone but it has been reported in his homeland that he is unhappy at the initial offer Celtic have presented him with.

The expectancy is that there will be further negotiations conducted between both parties over the coming weeks.

The 25-year-old has 15 months remaining on his current deal with the club but Brendan Rodgers had wanted to tie up the Aussie internationalist on a long-term contract.

Rogic will be part of the Australian team who compete at the World Cup in Russia this summer and it could be that the player sees that as an opportunity to put himself in the shop window.

Former Parkhead manager Neil Lennon signed Rogic from Central Coast Mariners back in 2013 but the player’s time at Celtic has been dogged with injury issues. Last season was his most consistent campaign but a knee problem has kept him sidelined for the past three months.

Rogic’s finest moment for Celtic came with his winning goal at Hampden last May when he netted against Aberdeen to seal a dramatic unbeaten Treble for the Parkhead side.

He enjoys cult status with the Celtic support but it remains to be seen whether or not he regards his long-term future in Glasgow or whether he wishes to pursue further options.
