JAMIE MURPHY hopes his fine form with Rangers will be rewarded with another call-up to the Scotland squad.

The winger has previously been named in the groups for the matches with England and Denmark but has yet to make his full international bow.

And he will be ready and willing to represent his country should new boss Alex McLeish need his services for the friendlies against Cost Rica and Hungary next month.

Murphy said: “You never know, I am just trying to do my best for Rangers and if I do my best for Rangers sometimes rewards come. I am trying to do my best every time I step on the pitch and go from there.

“Everyone wants to play for their country but there is no point thinking about it or saying you should be in or shouldn’t be in.

“It is up to people to do their talking on the pitch and if you are not getting picked then it is your own fault.

“It was something I never expected and I didn’t think I was going to get in the squad. To be in the first 30 was a great honour for me.”

Murphy netted his third goal in as many games to inspire Graeme Murty’s side to a 2-0 win over Hearts on Saturday.

After collecting a pass from Greg Docherty, he kept his cool and finished in style as he opened his account at Ibrox.

Murphy said: “It was really special. Obviously there was a great support and we have had that in every game we have had so far, and away as well. It is good to score in front of them at home.

“I couldn’t get a clean shot away so I was trying to wait until that happened. I was just lucky it went in the net.”

It took until the closing minutes of an entertaining affair for Rangers to seal all three points as Russell Martin netted his first goal in Light Blue.

And Murphy has been impressed with the impact the Scotland defender has made at Ibrox following his loan move from Norwich.

Murphy said: “I actually met him around Christmas time. It was a Saturday when the games were on so both of us weren’t playing.

“I met him in a restaurant. He is from Brighton so I got chatting to him. He is a nice guy and he has come in and done great for us.

“It wasn’t a proper in depth conversation, it was just a hello. I hadn’t met him before so it was good to meet him.

“He has come in and done well and he has got captain like qualities. You can see why he was a captain at Norwich and he adds to the dressing room.”
