JAMIE MURPHY was pleased Rangers’ character shone through and their perseverance paid off against Hearts at Ibrox.

The forward netted his third goal in three games for Graeme Murty’s side to set them on their way to a crucial Premiership victory.

But it took until the closing stages for the Gers to make sure of the points as Russell Martin got off and running for the Light Blues.

Some fans have set their sights on a late bid for the top flight title this term but Murphy won’t look too far ahead despite an impressive all-round performance against the Jambos.

He said: “It is just about us at the moment and we want to win every game that we play, no matter who it is against.

“No matter if it is home or away, we want to win every game. For us, it is another one ticked off the last and we will look forward to Tuesday.

“It is not something we are thinking about. We are thinking about winning each game as it comes. Hearts are a good side, they came here and set up to stop us playing a bit and do their own thing.

“We managed to do it with a good performance and a clean sheet as well. We all work hard to get a clean sheet so I am delighted for the defenders and Wes.

“It is always a worry when it was 1-0 and you want to get the extra goal and kill teams off. I never thought we were really in trouble.

“We were the better team on the day and we kept trying and trying and got the goal in the end.

“The manager knows that and he tells us that we are never going to give up, no matter what happens.

“Whether we are behind or in front, we are going to go right until the end and that is expected here.”
