BRUNO ALVES admits Rangers have a point to prove to the Ibrox crowd when they go head-to-head with Celtic on Sunday.

The Light Blues haven’t tasted derby victory since their Scottish Cup semi-final success two years ago and have already suffered a 2-0 defeat on home soil this term.

But Graeme Murty’s side will go into the third meeting of the campaign in fine form and looking to build on a run of six wins in all competitions.

Victory this weekend would take the Gers to within touching distance of Brendan Rodgers’ side at the top of the standings and spark talk of a late bid for the silverware this season.

Alves only lasted 18 minutes of his Old Firm bow at Parkhead in December and knows the Ibrox crowd deserve a performance from Murty’s side.

He said: “I think the difference has become short and if we win this game we keep working very hard to reach the first position.

“But, before that we need to play this game. After we think about what we need to do.

“It is important for us to think about this game and prepare, we are very prepared for this game, give our best to win the game. That is what we want to do.

“We want to show to the Rangers supporters that we have quality, that we can compete and that we can play good for the fans.”
