JAMIE MURPHY is confident Rangers can get back on track after the international break and start to build some momentum ahead of the final weeks of the campaign.

Graeme Murty’s side followed up their Old Firm defeat against Celtic with a 1-0 loss to Kilmarnock on Saturday as they suffered another costly reverse on home soil.

Aberdeen are now just two points adrift of the Gers in the Premiership standings, while Hibernian are six behind having also played a game fewer than the Light Blues.

And when asked if it was now a three-way fight for second spot this term, Murphy said: “I am not sure to be honest.

“All we are concentrating on us and if we will all our games that will speak for itself. It is up to us to go out every game and try and win it.

“As I said, we take it game by game and we want to win every game that we play. The semi-final [against Celtic] in a couple of weeks is massive for us but we have got a couple of big games before then that obviously we need to win.

“That is what you want, you want to win every game you play. Before the Celtic game, that is what we were doing.

“We were playing well and scoring goals but the last week has been a disappointment. That is the kind of form we need to get back to.”

While boss Murty has a fortnight to count down to the trip to Motherwell, Murphy has international matters on his mind after joining up with Alex McLeish’s squad for the friendly fixtures with Costa Rica and Hungary.

But the winger is frustrated he wasn’t able to report for duty on a high note after Killie stunned Ibrox at the weekend.

Murphy said: “It is something different and something that you enjoy when you get called up for the National team. You come away and play with new players.

“Club football is your bread and butter and you need to do well there to get to here. It is a little break from that but hopefully after getting a couple of wins I can go back to doing well at Rangers.

“We were disappointed to lose [on Saturday]. We shouldn’t be losing games at home, no matter who it is against.

“It was a disappointing way to end before coming away but everyone in the squad wants to bounce back in the right way and I am sure the boys will rest up and recover for the next game.

“I am not sure [what we can put it down to]. Kilmarnock deserved to beat us on the day.

“There were things here and there that could have made it different but ultimately it was very disappointing.”
