Braehead Clan head coach John Tripp has left the Glasgow club following their failure to reach the EIHL play-offs at the weekend.

Sitting in eighth place in the league, the Clan were in a strong position going into the final two games of the season but a brace of losses to Nottingham Panthers and Guilford Flames over the weekend allowed Coventry Blaze to overhaul them and pip them to the eighth and final play-off spot by a single point.

Tripp had only been in post for a season but following a year of inconsistent results, the Glasgow side has terminated his contract a year early, which leaves them looking for their third head coach in just two years.

In a statement, Braehead Clan's Hockey & Operations Director Gareth Chalmers thanked Tripp for his contribution before commenting: “John leaves the club on very good terms and our utmost respect, we thank him for all his hard work and commitment over the past ten months. We wish John, his wife Taryn, son Ben and daughter Helena all the very best in their future.

“It has been bitterly disappointing for this organisation to finish ninth in the league, miss out on the playoffs and not retain the Gardiner Conference title. Our aspirations are for the Clan to be competing for silverware and not battling for a playoff spot.”
