JAMES Forrest netted his first goal against Rangers in Celtic’s record league win against Rangers yesterday afternoon and described it as the best moment of his Parkhead career.

The Scotland internationalist has eclipsed his best ever return over the course of this season with 17 goals but with Rangers the only top flight team he had not scored against in his senior career, he could not contain his delight as he netted the third in the rout against the Ibrox side.

The victory gave Celtic a title party at the expense of their rivals in an afternoon that will live long in the memory for Forrest.

“I think that is the best I have ever felt playing for Celtic!” he smiled. “It was incredible.

“I have scored big goals for Celtic but that is my favourite. I don’t think I have ever felt the way I did after I saw it going in – it was just the most unbelievable feeling to see it go in.

“ It’s the best moment I’ve ever had in football.

“The manager had told me to go and be positive and when the ball came to me I just wanted to get towards the box. When I saw the chance open up, I just knew I was going to take it. As soon as I hit it I felt confident that it was going in. To see it go in was special, a really special moment.”

Mikael Lustig enjoyed the celebrations as much as Forrest, although the winger was too caught up the moment to see the Swede hauling a policeman’s hat off and donning it himself.

“I didn’t see Mikael putting on the hat but the boys were all talking about it afterwards,” said Forrest. “You know Mika, he gets a wee bit carried away but it was all good fun. We put in a performance and we deserved everything we got today.”

Meanwhile, Forrest also applauded the contribution of two-goal striker Odsonne Edouard.

Celtic have a clause to buy the PSG striker at the end of the season in what would be a club record fee for the player but Forrest has lauded his contribution of 11 goals in 28 games from the Frenchman.

“I have enjoyed it every time I have played with big Odsonne,” said Forrest. “He contributes every time. He is there with the goals, he holds the ball up really well and he is a great guy to play alongside as he always seems to be there when you look up.

“But the whole team are buzzing. The guys at the back were brilliant and that went all the way through the team.

“Right from the start you could tell we were hungry. We were up for it. I remember looking at the clock and there were five minutes on it and we had already had three or four really good chances. I just knew that we were really up for it. We could have scored more but I think we showed that we are a really good side.”

Celtic have flown out to Tenerife for a warm weather training camp ahead of the final run-in towards what could be another historic season and Forrest has insisted that there will be no let up as the club look to the Scottish Cup final.

“We might get a break for a day or two but by Wednesday we’ll be back into it. We want to keep the momentum going for Hearts on Sunday and we know that we have the Cup final coming up too.”
