PEDRO CAIXINHA has confirmed on-loan Rangers midfielder Carlos Pena won’t play for Cruz Azul again.

The Mexican returned to his homeland in January after failing to impress during the first half of the campaign at Ibrox.

But Pena has struggled for form under Caixinha’s guidance and has been caught buying beer in his club tracksuit and urinating in a fountain at the team hotel in recent weeks.

Now he has been told that he has no future with the Liga MX side as Rangers are left with the headache of unloading one of their most highly-paid players this summer.

The 28-year-old was the biggest outlay of the transfer window for Rangers last year as he was reunited with Caixinha at Ibrox.

But he made just 14 appearances for the Light Blues before he was allowed to leave Graeme Murty’s squad and join the Portuguese for a third time.

The move hasn’t worked out for any party, however, and Cruz Azul have now taken a hard line over Pena’s off-field antics and confirmed that he will have no further part to play this season.

Caixinha said: "The case of Gullit is very simple. The principles that Ricardo (Peláez) spoke of, commitment, discipline, because I also communicate with them and I already passed on one of my maxims: maximum freedom, maximum responsibility.

"I think nobody in Mexican football has given Gullit more opportunities than me in such a short time, but that does not mean I can do everything.

"When you go against the rules, principles, values and discipline of an institution and when you go against fundamental principles of players, the technical director, because you have to make decisions, I already passed the decision with Carlos, he will not continue with us.”
