Celtic goalkeeper Scott Bain revealed that it was a “weird” atmosphere in the Hoops dressing room after the Parkhead side lift their seventh successive title yesterday afternoon.

Brendan Rodgers’ side were host to a party after the 1-0 defeat to Aberdeen that gave second berth to the Pittodrie side in the league.

It was the first time that Rodgers has lost at Celtic Park in a domestic context since his arrival at the club almost two years ago and the first time that Aberdeen have won at the ground since 2004. The Dons had endured 25 straight league defeats before yesterday’s game.

It meant that there was a subdued nature to the celebrations, but Bain has insisted that the defeat will be used as motivation ahead of this weekend’s William Hill Scottish Cup final.

“It was a kind of weird atmosphere after the game because no-one likes getting beat,” said Bain. “Everyone was a bit disappointed because we wanted to sign off with a bit of style so there was a bit of frustration.

“There were a lot of fans here for a party and we were a bit gutted that we couldn’t give it to them. But at the end of the day it wasn’t about one game or one performance it was about what has gone on over the whole season and there is no doubt that we deserved to win the league.

“So I think it was important to go out and enjoy getting the trophy but we will still be looking to kick on a bit from here.

“It is maybe just a little reminder than if we want to go and be successful at Hampden next Saturday afternoon that we need one more big push,” said the goalkeeper.

“Aberdeen had a little bit more about them because they were playing for second place and knew they had to win the game to get it. That isn’t an excuse from us because we should still have had enough to win the game but it gives us a wee extra incentive to go again in the Cup Final.”

Bain, meanwhile, has hinted that it will be Craig Gordon who takes his place between the sticks for Saturday’s meeting against Motherwell.

The Scotland internationalist has been out of action for the last few weeks with a recurrence of a knee issue but is set to go back in for the Cup Final.

“I think he is all set to join in training again,” said Bain. “All the goalkeepers are ready to go and ready to push one another for the final.

“I’m sure Craig is desperate to play. The whole week we need to push one another and make sure that both of us are ready so that whoever gets the nod is ready. The most important thing is that mentally and physically you are ready if called upon and both of us will be.”
