Kieran Tierney has insisted that Celtic can afford to dwell for too long on their domestic success as they prepare for another fraught summer.

The Parkhead side made history this weekend by becoming the first Scottish club to win back-to-back trebles under Brendan Rodgers and while the 20-year-old has applauded the consistency required to achieve such a feat, he has nevertheless maintained that the Champions League remains the holy grail for Celtic.

Rodgers has twice successfully negotiated the notoriously awkward qualifiers but there is an additional round to be overcome this term.

Two years ago Tierney resisted the pull of a boys holiday in the close season as he opted to hire a personal trainer and work his way through the summer.

And while physically he is in need of a break now, his thoughts will not stray too far from the demands that lie in wait when Celtic return to action.

"We need to get into the Champions League, that’s what we want to do," he said.

“It’s going to be tough, there’s eight games right at the start of the season. I don’t think people realise how hard that is, our biggest games are coming right at the start.

“I’ve got a few weeks off to go and relax and enjoy those when it comes."

Meanwhile, the Scotland internationalist has maintained that he still has to buckle down to work on the weaker side of his game.

Tierney's reputation is such that he has been scouted repeatedly this season by a number of elite clubs - Atletico Madrid were the latest to take a look at the player at the weekend - but the player himself is reluctant to buy into any of the hype around him.

“I’ve got lots of learning to do.," he said. "I’ve got a lot of weaknesses that I work on every day in training. So it’s just work hard every day, that’s it.

“I don’t set myself any goals or anything like that. It’s just work hard every day and see where it takes you and enjoy every minute I can."

Rodgers claimed this week that there may well come a time when Celtic have a moral obligation to allow Tierney to make a move but the player himself has reiterated that he is in no rush to go anywhere soon. The player signed a five-year deal back in October and his head has not been turned by the incessant chatter of just what his next move may be.

“I saw what the manager says, that if I move it has to be best for both parties; the club and me," he said.

“But he said it’s not the time now and I’m not thinking about it either. So I’m just happy playing here, you can see that I play with a smile on my face, I train with a smile on my face and that’s what happiness is.

“This season has been brilliant, we got through the Champions League group in to the Europa League, we won the League Cup, we won the league and we’ve done the treble. So it doesn’t get much better than this. The double-treble has never been done in history and us as a team we’ve managed to do it and I’m just very grateful and honoured to be a part of this wonderful team."
