MURDO MacLeod believes there isn’t a club in Britain who have managed the transfer market more successfully than Celtic in recent times.

The Parkhead outfit, who are preparing to smash their transfer record by lavishing £10m to make Odsonne Edouard’s loan deal from Paris St Germain into a permanent move, have been perfectly positioned to benefit from the riches on offer south of the border.

When you consider in-demand players such as Kieran Tierney, Moussa Dembele, Tom Rogic, Olivier Ntcham, Callum McGregor and Stuart Armstrong, a squad with dubious sell on value during the early years of Neil Lennon’s time could now command combined transfer fees in excess of £100m.

There are also the whopping sell-on fees Peter Lawwell has managed to wring from the likes of Virgil van Dijk and Victor Wanyama but the former Celtic assistant manager, at a time when the Parkhead club didn’t always speculate to accumulate, doesn’t foresee many summer departures this time around.

“I don’t think there is a club in Britain who have managed the transfer market better than Celtic over the last four or five years,” said MacLeod, speaking at a Back Onside golf day to raise funds and awareness for mental health charities. “They have picked up players for next to nothing and then sold them for big money. Yes, it isn’t for as much as some English clubs who get £50m for their players, but they have had big success.”
