New Arsenal head coach Unai Emery is one of several current managers to have an official Twitter account – with Gunners fans hoping for similar interactions as those provided by the likes of Ronald Koeman.
The former Southampton and Everton boss is a keen user of the social media site and one of his tweets poking fun at the number of players Saints had sold in 2014 was retweeted over 12,000 times.
“Ready for training” he wrote, accompanied by a picture of an empty pitch following a number of high-profile exits.
Koeman, now manager of Holland, has 1.2 million followers on Twitter, with Emery – appointed as Arsene Wenger’s replacement at the Emirates Stadium on Wednesday – some way behind with 235,000.
That number swelled by 60 per cent in the last week as speculation over his impending appointment grew.
Carlo Ancelotti boasts the most followers among the management fraternity with almost 2.4million, with Miguel Herrera – boss of Mexican outfit America – and Atletico Madrid coach Diego Simeone also ahead of Koeman.
Juventus boss Massimiliano Allegri, heavily linked with the Arsenal job before Emery’s appointment, is closing in on 500,000.
Marc Wilmots, manager of the Ivory Coast also makes the top 10, as does Marseille’s Rudi Garcia and China boss Marcello Lippi.
England’s Gareth Southgate rounds off the top 10 but, with the Three Lions boss having not tweeted since April 2015, he has arguably done well to retain 147,000 followers.
