Celtic goalkeeper Scott Bain described the last six months of his career as "madness" after making his Scotland debut against Mexico on Saturday night.

The 26-year-old signed a six-month loan deal with the Hoops from Dundee at the end of the January transfer window as number three to then injured number one Craig Gordon and Dorus de Vries.

He made his first appearance in a 3-2 win against Rangers at Ibrox in March, after De Vries suffered an injury in training.

Bain impressed Parkhead boss Brendan Rodgers enough in subsequent appearances to be handed a four-year contract last month.

And after ending up part of a club which won a historic successive domestic treble, Bain replaced fellow Scotland debutant Jon McLaughlin for the start of the second-half at the Azteca at the weekend.

He came on when Scotland were trailing to a goal from Giovani dos Santos and helped keep the score down to 1-0 with several good saves.

The former Alloa goalkeeper told Press Association Sport: "It has been madness. It has been mad and that puts the icing on the cake really.

"I have worked hard to get here and I am glad that I managed to have a good game.

"When I went to Celtic I thought it would be difficult to get any game time and it would be a case of doing well in training to show what I can do.

"But obviously I managed to play and that stood me in good stead in Mexico so I think it is just a case of working hard as possible and the sky is the limit."
