KEVIN THOMSON hopes he will be given the chance to kick-off his managerial career with Premiership new boys Livingston.

The Lions are on the look-out for a new boss after David Hopkin opted to leave the club just days after guiding them back to the top flight.

Thomson is currently a youth coach at former club Rangers and runs his own Academy system giving kids a chance to get involved in the game.

The 33-year-old was at Oriam on Tuesday morning as the next generation of bosses look to progress through the ranks and earn their qualifications.

Thomson said: “I’ve prepared myself to be ready. I could take the job tomorrow and I’d be comfortable in doing it.

“Do I want the job? I’d be interested in it. It’s a great job, a big job.

“I want to aim as high as I can as a young coach. The transition for me - and I’m hoping I’ll be right - is that doing what I’m doing is a harder thing than doing something that I’m used to.

“I think people take it for granted, working with kids. It can be difficult. Even portraying yourself, speaking in a men’s environment, the lingo that comes off your tongue is totally different to speaking to a 12-year-old, as you can imagine.

“So the way I have adapted as a young coach can only stand me in good stead for one day getting to what is more normal for myself.

“I’ve not [spoken to them], no. I’ve inquired about it to see what their thoughts were.

“We’ve got 94 B licence applicants on this course. We had 77 last week. There are millions of people that want jobs.

“The one thing about me is I’m very relaxed. I’ve got a great role at Rangers. I really enjoy it.

“My Academy is going from strength to strength. I’m just trying to work as hard as I possibly can to be the best I can.”
