RANGERS will look to complete a move for defender Connor Goldson next week after agreeing a £3million fee with Brighton.

Ibrox boss Steven Gerrard has identified Goldson as one of his key transfer targets this summer as he attempts to bolster his ranks ahead of the new campaign.

And he is now set to land his man after the Light Blues met Brighton’s valuation and saw their latest bid accepted on Wednesday.

The move won’t be completed until next week and the stopper, who was ruled out of action for several months after undergoing heart surgery last year, has still to pass a medical at Ibrox.

SportTimes revealed last week that Rangers would return to the negotiating table after seeing two offers for Goldson rejected by the Seagulls.

Details between the clubs have now been ironed out and Rangers will hold talks with the 25-year-old as he closes in on a move north of the border.

Goldson was unable to dislodge the impressive pairing of Shane Duffy and Lewis Dunk last term as Chris Hughton’s side retained their Premier League status and finished 16th in the top flight.

The arrival of Nigerian international Leon Balogun from Mainz has increased the competition for places at the Amex Stadium and Goldson will now head for the exit door in search of first team football.

The capture of the former Shrewsbury Town kid is a major boost to Gerrard as work continues to overhaul the Gers squad before the Europa League qualifiers and new Premiership campaign.

Rangers have already completed deals for Scott Arfield and Allan McGregor – who have moved north of the border from Burnley and Hull City respectively – and forward Jamie Murphy as he made his loan move from Brighton permanent and put pen-to-paper on a three-year deal.

The Light Blues squad will return to pre-season training next week before jetting out to Spain for a ten day training camp ahead of their first European clash on July 12.
