Celtic's Lewis Morgan has insisted that his sights are fully set on making it into Brendan Rodgers' side this term after joining up with the Hoops squad this week.

The winger is still on the radar of Jack Ross at Sunderland but it is believed that the 21-year-old has made an impressive start to his Celtic career with some good work already clocked at Lennoxtown as he has got to know his new team-mates.

Leigh Griffiths posted a clip on social media of an acrobatic finish, with Morgan providing the assist for the Scotland internationalist.

And the player is desperate now to make an impression when the games start to get underway.

"I had a wee chat with him [Rodgers] and he welcomed me to the club," he told Celtic TV.

“He was saying what he expected of me and stuff and just to really kick on in pre-season and try and get into his thoughts.

“I always had that belief within myself anyway.

“I know it’s a tough task, the squad here is full of quality and I know it’s going to be tough to break into it but I wouldn’t be here if I didn’t think I could add something to the team."

Meanwhile, Morgan's former manager at St Mirren, Ross has admitted that he will be drawn to what he knows as he looks to add to Sunderland's squad.

“It’s natural that you will lean towards players that you know, but I’m also trying to identify those who have experience of this league," he said.

“There will be ones in Scotland that fit the bill in terms of having the quality but not having experience of that league.

“We are still a bit uncertain about what holes we’ll have in the squad depending on who leaves the club.”
