CELTIC defender Dedryck Boyata has revealed Brendan Rodgers’ harsh
criticism has turned him into a World Cup star.

The Hoops stopper was dropped for Belgium’s comeback Round of 16 win against Japan in favour of Vincent Kompany.

But the Manchester City captain had an uncomfortable evening and there are calls in Belgium to reinstate Boyata for the quarter final showdown against Brazil on Friday.

Boyata explained: “I was making mistakes at Celtic initially and had problems concentrating.

“Then along came Brendan Rodgers and he listed a number of things I had to improve.

“He made it clear to me that if I did not do what he had told me, I wouldn’t play for Celtic.”
