RANGERS are set to clinch a loan deal for Roma striker Umar Sadiq before their Europa League first qualifying round clash with FK Shkupi.

Boss Steven Gerrard has added seven players to his squad so far this summer as he prepares for the European ties and Premiership campaign.

And Sadiq should now become the eighth arrival at Ibrox as he edges closer to completing a move until the end of the season.

The 21-year-old has had spells at Bologna, Torino and NAC Breda in recent years and will leave the Stadio Olimpico on a temporary basis once again to join the Light Blues’ attack this term.

Rangers had until Friday night to submit their squad for the tie with Shkupi but Sadiq could still feature against the Macedonians if the paperwork can be completed before midnight on Wednesday.

Gerrard saw his side beat Bury 6-0 on Friday in their final warm-up fixture and the Liverpool legend will now make his competitive debut at Ibrox on Thursday, before the return leg in Skopje next Tuesday as he looks to lead his side into the second round.

Gerrard remains in the market for further reinforcements this summer and a move for Mali international midfielder Lassana Coulibaly is still ongoing at present.

It is understood that an approach for former England striker Jermain Defoe has not been discussed, however, despite reports linking the Bournemouth star with a loan switch to Ibrox.
