CELTIC’S French forward duo was last night tipped to stay together and score the goals which will bring Champions League football back to Glasgow for an unprecedented third year in a row.

Jozo Simunovic backed Osdonne Edouard and Moussa Dembele to form a killer partnership which even at these early stages has shown the potential for them to be a lethal combination.

Edouard scored the opener in the 3-0 win over FC Alashkert, while Demeble looked fitter than he has been for some time before tiring late on in a game in which he did a lot of running.

“I think the two guys have shown that they can cause trouble for other clubs playing together in Europe this season,” said Simunovic. “They showed they have everything tonight. And I’m sure they are going to show more.

“Keeping them together isn’t a question for me. You would have to ask Peter [Lawwell].

“But both of them working together could be incredible for Celtic. They are very important for us. I’m sure they are happy here and want to play in the Champions League.”

A 3-0 first leg win was more than many would have hoped for; however, Celtic have learned from the previous two campaigns how to approach these games.

Simunovic said: “We are very happy with the result because we showed from the first minute of the match that we were the team who wanted to dictate the tempo and the pace.

“In the end, the scoreline said everything.

“We looked good as a team and there is not much more to add to it.”
