NIKOLA KATIC hopes his move to Rangers will help him star for World Cup finalists Croatia in the coming years.

The defender made the switch to Ibrox from Slaven Belupo last month and was handed his competitive bow in the win over FK Shkupi.

Katic is set to start for Steven Gerrard’s side in Macedonia tonight as the Light Blues look to progress to the second qualifying round.

And he is eager to impress as he looks to catch the eye and add to the cap he won against Mexico in May.

Katic said: “Personally for me, playing for Croatia is the greatest honour in football – it’s something that every boy in the country dreams of and strives for. It’s hard to describe just how proud I was to win my cap.

“When you wear that Croatia jersey there are no words for it – you just have to experience it and live for the moment.

“My aim is to play well for Rangers so I can wear it again.

“Look, the boys in Russia have done us proud. They are all heroes. They have played with passion and honour.

“We’ve received great support here in Scotland. The people here love their football too and I think they like us because they recognise true fighters on the pitch.”

Katic has turned in steady performances in the wins over Bury and Shkupi.

And he is pleased with life in Glasgow so far.

He said: “The club is really great, the city is great. I have been greeted warmly and accepted by my new team-mates and the people in the club, so I really have nothing to complain about.”
