KRIS Boyd has revealed Scott McKenna has tried to inflict defensive "tricks of the trade" on him – and insists Alfredo Morelos "should know better".

Morelos was shown a straight red card by referee Kevin Clancy as Rangers drew 1-1 with Aberdeen at Pittodrie on Sunday.

The Colombian kicked out after being barged twice off the ball by McKenna and was dismissed just 11 minutes in to an absorbing contest.

Kilmarnock striker Boyd claims he relishes the physical challenge of coming up against McKenna, who rose to prominence with the Dons last season and earned his international breakthrough with Scotland.

And, with Ibrox manager Steven Gerrard claiming McKenna’s actions were "major provocation", Boyd believes Morelos should have been able to shrug off the jostling.

The former Rangers favourite said: “It happens all the time; I get it every week.

“Every time you play against McKenna he’ll stand on your toes, he’ll nip you. I don’t mind it, I like it.

“He’s a young boy, he’s physical and he’s been linked with a move down south.

“He’s a young Scottish player I think can go right to the top and all these wee things are tricks of the trade that you need to learn.”

Boyd added to Sky Sports: “It’s disappointing for [Morelos] to get involved in something, but he should know better.”
