RYAN LOWE is confident Steven Gerrard's recommendation will pay off for Bury this term after Jamie Barjonas clinched a loan switch to the League One club.

The midfielder has fallen down the Ibrox pecking order this summer following the arrivals of Scott Arfield, Ovie Ejaria and Lassana Coulibaly.

He has agreed a temporary switch to the Shakers and will remain south of the border until January as he bids for vital first team football this term.

Barjonas has made nine appearances for the Gers so far but his chances to impress were likely to be limited in the coming months and he has now headed for the exit door on a short term basis.

Lowe brought his side to Ibrox earlier this summer as Gerrard got his Light Blues reign off and running with a 6-0 friendly win.

And the Gigg Lane boss is pleased to have Barjonas on board following a discussion with the Liverpool and England legend.

Lowe said: “I'm delighted to have signed Jamie on loan until January. We were looking for another player in that area, and with the links between Bury and Rangers, and myself and Steven Gerrard, upon enquiry Jamie came highly recommended.

“I think when someone like Steven Gerrard recommends to you a midfielder with the career he has had then you don't look twice at it; you've got to take it, and that's what we've done.

“Jamie came down to train with us for a few days, and he was outstanding in training; he fitted the bill for what we are after. I'm really looking forward to working with him from now until January.”
