Australia head coach Graham Arnold is set to meet Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers this week to discuss the future of new signing Daniel Arzani.

Arnold will travel to Scotland following the end of the Socceroos’ training camp in Turkey on Tuesday and has revealed his plans to catch up with Rodgers.

Celtic midfielder Tom Rogic, who was left out of his country’s get-together because of a knee problem, is a key figure for Australia, whilst Hibernian pair Jamie Maclaren and Mark Milligan mean there is further interest in Scottish football for Arnold.

However, rising star Arzani, signed by Celtic last month on a two-year loan from Manchester City, will be a hot topic for Arnold after the 19-year-old winger was left out of the Hoops’ Europa League squad.

Arnold said: “Young Daniel is in great shape. He’s looked excellent in training.

“I will be in Scotland on Wednesday or Thursday. I’m meeting Brendan Rodgers and probably will find out more [about Arzani’s progress].

“I do know Celtic rate him very, very highly.

“The kid has only been there two weeks and needs a little bit of time to let him settle. I’m sure the plans Celtic have will be great for him.”

Meanwhile, Arnold has good news for Hibs as the Easter Road club await the arrival this week of Australia veteran Mark Milligan.

Milligan, who played in all three of the Socceroos’ World Cup matches in Russia, was signed three weeks ago on a two-year deal but work permit issues delayed him travelling to Scotland.

The 33-year-old last played for previous club Al Ahli in Saudi Arabia in April but Arnold has been impressed with the defensive midfielder’s fitness.

The Socceroos boss added: “Milligan has turned up in very good shape. He had a personal trainer.

“The only thing he probably missed a little bit was the football side of things with a group, but he’s trained very well.”
