STEVEN GERRARD has made it clear to a handful of players that they won’t feature next season and he will hope to move them on from Ibrox this summer.

The difficulty there is that they might be on decent money and they might be quite happy to sit tight for another season.

Unless another club is going to give them the same money, you can find it hard to get people out the door, even if they are not going to get first team football.

That can be dangerous in terms of the dressing room because you don’t want players around the place that are negative and that aren’t pulling in the same direction as everyone else.

The players have signed their deals and are entitled to see them out if they want. But everyone should want to play games.

The squad is just too big now and there are too many players on the books that are right out of the picture.

I hope that they realise that and move on and go elsewhere to continue their careers. Rangers and the fans will wish them well and everyone moves on next season.

There is nothing worse as a player than working away and training all week and then having nothing to show for it come a Saturday and you don’t even make the bench.

Kyle Lafferty, Graham Dorrans, Jason Holt, Jordan Rossiter and Eros Grezda all missed the trip to Portugal and don’t seem to be in the plans.

If the manager has made his position clear then I think players should take the hint this summer.

Steven has been straight with them and let them know his position early.

So they have plenty of time to work with their agents and come to an agreement to leave Rangers and then get themselves another club.
