Allan doubt for Serbia showdown

ALLAN McGREGOR remains a doubt for Scotland's World Cup opener against Serbia – despite scans showing no tear in his injured groin.

Goalkeeper McGregor limped badly as he went off midway through the first half of the 3-1 friendly win over Australia.

An SFA statement read: "Allan McGregor underwent an MRI scan at Ross Hall Hospital following his substitution against Australia at Easter Road on Wednesday night.

"The scan confirmed he has suffered a groin strain and he will now return to Turkey to undergo a programme of rehabilitation with Besiktas.

"The Scottish FA medical staff have confirmed that the recovery process will take weeks rather than days but a more specific timescale will only be established once he begins treatment at his club."

Scotland open their World Cup campaign against the Serbians at Hampden on September 8 before hosting Macedonia three days later.
